If I ruled the world…

Having recently come across an article about Salinger I remembered one of my favourite books of all time, Franny and Zooey. There are certain albums and books that will never tire in my eyes and this is one of them. However, being away from home and away from stuff I don’t have a copy. This week I’ve been amazed at the lack of quality literature and music I can find digitally, yet at the sheer amount of terrible stuff that is thrown in my face. Being away from home and the culture I have grown up in I’m at the mercy of iTunes and Amazon. Sort it out guys. Or maybe I should just use my time to learn about the culture I am in?

I’m sick of not having the courage to be an absolute nobody.

Hold you down

I could get stuck in listening to this forever.  I don’t think I’d get sad or bored.

Produced by Kieran Hebden, soon to be released on Text Records, a genuinely beautiful piece of good wholesome magic.

I had the pleasure of meeting and interviewing Elizabeth and Jeremy from Summer Camp before their show in Istanbul, more on that later. What comes here is an expose on their brilliant live show afterwards. Maybe it’s because I don’t get out so much these days, or maybe it’s because most bands are better at music than they are at interacting with people that Summer Camp excelled themselves.
A healthy mix of old songs, a few upbeat new ones and the pleasant surprise of not only being able to hush the audience but also singing an acoustic version of Summer Camp performed while wondering through the crowd posing for photographs and dancing all in a way that felt like they were serenading each other and their fans. Elizabeth and Jeremy have an excellent stage presence. Throughout the whole show they projected classic dance routine movie clips from films like Mary Poppins and The Breakfast Club. With Elizabeth’s dry wit and snip-its into their lives behind the scenes, Summer Camp definitely wooed Istanbul. View Larger
